Frequently Asked Questions

1. What do I wear/bring for my fencing class?

Bring a water bottle!! You can refill it at the club. You may want to bring a hand towel. Wear a comfortable cotton t-shirt, long pants (thick sweat pants are ideal) and athletic shoes. The Northwest Arkansas Fencing Center has bathrooms and showers.

2. Can I wear glasses under my mask?

Yes, the mask can be adjusted to fit your normal glasses underneath. Many fencers wear glasses successfully under their masks.

3. I am age ___, is it too late for me to start fencing?

This is a question that we get a lot. It is never too late to start fencing. Many of our fencers started fencing later in life. The U.S. Fencing Association has a veteran division of fencing that starts at age 40 and is HIGHLY COMPETITIVE. The members of the Northwest Arkansas Fencing Center range in age from teens to their fifties. Your age is never an excuse not to start fencing!

4. I am a parent; can I watch a class?

We encourage parents to come watch a class to see that fencing is fun, safe sport. Don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with the other parents who are enjoying watching their kids in the fencing classes. We encourage parents to see and understand the sport of fencing and many of them, after see their kids fence, decide to take classes. Most of our students arrive to the Center from word of mouth from other students and we encourage you to check out this fun and exciting sport.
